Zoos have always been a form of entertainment for humans since the 1860s. They're made for people to have fun spending time with their family or loved ones as they walk around together, watching animals live and roam around their habitats. Of course, as you may have experienced as a kid, all the animals were very well fed and happy, but this does not apply to all zoos. In many zoos, animals are left to starve and freeze. There is also no healthcare for them when they get sick. These animals are captured from the wild and forced to live in these zoos so that the zookeepers can profit off of them. Many of these animals can also be seen begging for food from the people that decide to go to the zoos.
Obviously, this causes a massive uproar on social media as well as the public that knows about it, but the word has not yet gotten around. More people must know about this problem as we must shut down these zoos. There have been efforts to shut them down, but because the public isn't aware of this situation, the efforts aren't supported by enough people for anything to happen to these zoos. The majority of these zoos that abuse animals can be found in Asia. American zoos take animals that have had their homes destroyed or animals that are injured and keep them at the zoos to protect them. Unlike the American zoos, the Asian zoos capture animals from the wild and force them out of their homes. These animals are then forced to live in filthy cages and enclosure for the rest of their lives, many of them starve to death weeks after showing up. A reason why the zoos do something like this is to get the people who see these starving animals to purchase food to feed them, enabling the zoos the profit even more. These zoos aren't worried about losing any of their animals, as they can always go into the wild and capture more.
Another reason why this is so controversial is that these Asian zoos make other zoos around the world as well as animal habitats look bad. Many of the people who find out about these atrocities mistakenly start to believe that all zoos as well as any organization or habitat that holds animals is corrupt and harms their animals. This is obviously incorrect. These zoos and animal habitats aim and work towards protecting animals, giving them a home, and rehabilitating them or helping them heal. Because these Asian zoos exist, any other group that holds animals looks bad because of them. We must spread the word about Asian zoos and what they do. We must help people distinguish the difference and learn that zoos like this do exist and what they do is wrong.
Progress: I feel as if I didn't make much progress towards my goal through this blog post, but I wrote about a topic that I felt was very important and people must know about. I worked on some pathos as well as some call to argument. It won't help me as much as my other blog posts have, but this post will help me during my argumentative essays.
Reflection: I wasn't very happy with how this blog post turned out, but I sacrificed the quality of a post to write something that is more informative than anything. My writing skills haven't improved much from this but my voice is slowly getting stronger. I knew from the start I wasn't able to include much in this blog post but I went through with it anyway, as this is a very important topic people have to know about.
